This page is currently in the beginning stages. We hope to provide links to various types of tutors who can assist or enrich the home school experience for your students. If you are willing to serve as a tutor for a fellow homeschool family or can recommend a tutor you found exceptional, please share that with other CAHSA members by emailing us the name, subject and contact information.

You can email those offering their services by clicking the name of one of the tutors, listed according to their area/s of specialization. Interviews, schedules and rates are handled independently between you and the tutor.

Wise Owl Educational Services was established by Jennifer Park, following many years of working in the public school system as a school psychologist. Dyslexia impacts as many as 1 in 5 students and can have wide and long lasting effects, but it can be remediated with research-based interventions. Wise Owl utilizes the Orton-Gillingham approach, which has been indicated as the best approach to help struggling readers.

Shawna Wicker

Specialization: Spanish for beginners/children, Spanish pronunciation, Reading, Writing Composition (English or Spanish), English grammar & pronunciation, linguistics/phonology, Study Skills, basic Italian

Grades: K-16

Phone: (612) 867-6398

My MA is in Second Language Education for higher ed, my BA in Teaching Spanish and Teaching ESL, and I have experience teaching both at the K-5, and at the adult/university level. I have most recently taught ESL and Spanish at the University of Minnesota and taught English to 7-year-olds in northern Italy. My favorite experience was teaching a class that was mixed ages K-5 of beginning Spanish in a suburb of Minneapolis. It was beautiful to see the older students in 'helping' roles taking leadership in class, and to see the five-year-olds look up to them and strive to do their best in front of their older peers. I love bringing in props, and using music, dance, and games as primary medium when teaching kids. I have a lot of energy, and would love to work with any interested CAHSA families in Bloomington-Normal. I have a flexible schedule, can meet anywhere in the area, and am open to families, a class of students, or individual tutoring.
